Responsibilities:
- Job Summary:
- The Perioperative Nursing Officer is responsible for providing high-quality surgical nursing care
- before, during, and after surgical procedures. The role involves preparing the operating room,
- assisting surgeons, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining sterile conditions. The officer will
- work closely with the surgical team to enhance efficiency and ensure the best patient outcomes.
- Duties & Responsibilities.
- 1.Preoperative Care
- Assess and prepare patients for surgery, including obtaining consent and explaining procedures.
- Ensure proper documentation of patient history, allergies, and preoperative instructions.
- Prepare the operating room with necessary surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies
- Verify and ensure proper functioning of surgical equipment and sterilization of instruments.
- 2.Intraoperative Care
- Assist the surgical team as a scrub or circulating nurse.
- Maintain aseptic techniques to prevent infections.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and respond to intraoperative emergencies
- Ensure accurate handling of surgical instruments, sponges, and other materials
- Coordinate with anesthetists and surgeons to facilitate smooth operations.
- 3Postoperative Care
- Assist in transferring patients to the recovery room and ensure proper handover.
- Monitor patients post-surgery for complications or adverse reactions.
- Provide post-anesthesia care, including pain management and wound care.
- Educate patients and caregivers on postoperative care instructions.
- 4.Infection Control & Patient Safety
- Adhere to infection control policies and standard surgical protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of procedures, incidents, and patient progress.
- Ensure proper disposal of surgical waste and biohazard materials.
- 5.Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve surgical processes.
- Participate in training, mentorship, and professional development programs.
- Contribute to policy and procedure reviews to enhance theatre operations.
Requirements:
- Professional requirement
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in Perioperative Nursing.
- Minimum of 2 years working in a perioperative nursing environment.
- Must be registered with the t Nursing Council and hold a valid practicing license
